This Christmas, Premier Community decided to help local charities that help lonely elderly people. Today, we delivered 50 Christmas cards and 50 boxes of Quality Streets for Age Concern Chesterfield & District to give to people they support.
The job that Age Concern Chesterfield & District do for our local community is immense, some of the schemes they provide can include a Telephone Befriending Service and Older Peoples Clubs.
Telephone Befriend Service
Care Line is a telephone befriending and support service for older people who experience loneliness and isolation in the community. They operate the service within Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire and Bolsover.
The service is free for older people and for those who are socially isolated or lonely.
They try and link volunteers who share similar interests so that friendships can be formed.
They can also be a way of helping someone who is in a crisis, for example someone recently bereaved, feeling depressed or unsure about the future.
Referrals can be made by anyone – The person, their family, friends, care workers and health professionals.
