Sally’s Story: A Care Assistant Who Gives from the Heart

At Premier Community, care isn’t just part of the job — it’s part of who we are. Our values are rooted in compassion, family, and going the extra mile for others. Few embody that more than Sally, a Care Assistant in Arnold, who not only supports her Service Users with dedication, but also gives tirelessly to those in need throughout her community.

Sally has become a charity champion, quietly helping individuals, families, and local causes through fundraising, donations, and heartfelt action. Whether it’s supporting a local pet rescue or helping a family who has lost everything in a house fire, Sally is always ready to step up.

“We help out random charities — small ones like Stonebridge Farm, pet rescues, or bigger ones like Cancer Research and local hospices,” Sally shares. “We also support families who are struggling, whether that’s with food, essentials, or toys at Christmas.”

Sally’s Story: A Care Assistant Who Gives from the Heart

Sassy’s Bag a Bargain

Much of this work takes place through Sally’s Facebook page, Sassy’s Bag a Bargain, a community-led fundraising initiative where donated items are sold at low prices, with proceeds going to charity or directly to people in crisis.

“People donate items, and we sell them cheaply to raise funds,” she says. “Sometimes we’ll do a GoFundMe or ask for help online — it’s all about doing what we can.”

While Sally now runs the page on a smaller scale due to her working hours, her dream is to one day have a dedicated unit for Sassy’s — a space away from her family home where she can continue to make an even bigger impact.

A Journey Through Grief and Purpose

Sally’s passion for giving back was born out of personal loss. In 2020, she lost her father after a long battle with bladder cancer. Fourteen months later, her mother passed away suddenly from Covid-related pneumonia. It was during this time of grief that she found a way to cope — by helping others.

“I started the page to help me through the death of my parents. It kept me focused during some really tough days,” she explains.

Looking after her father gave her a new sense of purpose — one that led her into care work with Premier Community.

“Caring for my dad showed me my strength, and how much I valued respect and dignity. That’s exactly how I treat the people I now care for.”

Recognition and Respect

Sally’s commitment didn’t go unnoticed. She was recently recognised with a community award for her ongoing charitable work — a moment that caught her by surprise.

“I was amazed by how many people had put me forward. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s donated, supported the page, or helped raise funds.”

The award is a reflection of the values she lives by every day — both inside and outside of her role at Premier.

Living the Premier Community Values

Sally’s story is a shining example of what care truly means. It’s not just about showing up — it’s about showing heart. Her experience supporting her own parents, and the compassion she pours into her Service Users and community alike, reflect the values Premier is built on: kindness, respect, and family.

“The way I cared for my parents is how I now care for others’ loved ones,” she says. “With dignity, respect, and to the very best of my ability.”
