We’re celebrating 28 years of caring for your independence.
Our family business burst into life on the 4th July back in 1996. It started from a spare room in Ravenshead, Nottinghamshire, where our mum, Gill, put her nursing skills to good use as she set out with a mission to provide trusted quality care services and products to support local communities to thrive and lead more independent lives at home.
Over the years, we have grown, and now our 2nd generation family business has extended to employ over 500 people and support thousands of people in more ways than we could have imagined 28 years ago.
Along the way we have won awards and received notable recognition, showing real innovation to ensure we keep meeting our original family business mission.
Since our last birthday we’ve had a busy year, so let’s take a look at some events that have happened over the last 12 months. From collectively taking part in fundraising events and winning individual awards, our team have had a busy year!
We wanted to recap with some highlights from our year, which was difficult to narrow down as every day is different in our business. We’re not just a care provider but a community.
In Summer 2023, we were still celebrating winning our digital service excellence award from the Family Business Awards and we were looking forward to the year ahead. We expected a busy and exciting one, but what a year that was on the way! Let’s look at what came along.
Fundraising for Breast Cancer Awareness
Moving into Autumn, we proudly raised over £700 in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, which is dedicated to giving support and hope for the future, for those affected by breast cancer.
Fundraising events are always fun to get involved with as it’s an opportunity to come together and work collectively to raise money for great causes such as Breast Cancer Awareness.
Commitment to Caring
The extreme floods that affected the East Midlands during October didn’t stop our dedicated carers going above and beyond to provide the care our service users required whatever the weather.
Of course, we know at Premier Community all of our carers are dedicated to providing that personalised experience our service users deserve. Even in extreme conditions, their passion and commitment really showed what we’re all about and was amazing to see.
In November, we attended the East Midlands Regional Final of Great British Care Awards, where three of our fantastic team members, along with the company as a whole, were nominated for awards.
Marie, Leah and Tracy as well as the company as a whole were nominated; and Marie took home the Regional Home Care Worker of the year Award! It was a delightful evening to celebrate care and was enjoyed by all.
The extreme weather conditions didn’t stop in October, the snow arrived early December and we had a white winter on our hands. The severe snow had our carers proving the extraordinary efforts they will go to for our service users. Cars were ditched, and wellies were worn to make journeys to calls via foot.
Unexpected changes in weather conditions are never ideal for the nature of domiciliary care, however we are forever in awe of the lengths our dedicated carers will go to for our service users.
It will come as no surprise the rain returned to greet us into 2024! But even that and a broken-down car couldn’t stop our carers from delivering their night calls by foot.
It is a truly amazing thing to prove this is much more than just a job but a genuine need to care for others, no matter what the circumstances may be. Premier Community’s values are built on scenarios just like these.
Throughout February we all took part in another fundraising activity that encouraged many to get walking. Our team collectively counted their step total to raise funds for Dementia UK.
Overall, the whole team had taken over 12 million steps and raised £500 for Dementia UK. An amazing effort was made by all and we absolutely crushed the initial step target.
After Marie won the Home Care Worker Award in November at the East Midlands Regional Final of Great British Care Awards, she attended the national finals in the middle of March. Sadly, she didn’t take first place this time round, but even so, we’re still exceptionally proud of what she has already achieved and the care she provides our service users.
Caring for our Community
During April we were lucky enough to go to get invited along to Field Mill to collect a special plaque for being a club sponsor, following Mansfield Town FC’s recent promotion.
What an exciting achievement for the team and we were so pleased to be able to go along to the ground itself not long after their win to meet and celebrate our community partnership.
In May, we gave our Nottinghamshire-based carers the opportunity to receive an NHS Health Check performed by the lovely Karen, a pharmacy assistant based in Nottingham.
As a care company it is our duty to make sure that health and well-being is at the front of what we do, Thanks to Nottinghamshire County Council for kindly supporting us to provide a service that allowed our carers to get their Health Check directly in our HQ.
With over 500 carers providing home care, personal care, overnight care and companionship care, we are extremely lucky to have such skilful, passionate and reliable carers and even more lucky that we get the opportunity to celebrate their achievements.
In June, we celebrated Jenifer completing her Level 2 Diploma in Care. Jen popped into HQ where she met with her Care co, Ellie, where we able to congratulate her on the amazing work and all that she does for the community.
Finally, to round off an action-packed year we got to celebrate a massive milestone as one of our carers, Jo Smith, reached twenty years of continued service at Premier Community!
Two decades of providing nothing but hard work and dedication and putting everything into her role, it was truly amazing to acknowledge Jo’s twenty years of service on social media, and seeing all the complimentary comments left by her fellow colleagues expressing their gratitude and congratulations to Jo.
Short-listing these events wasn’t easy, but with celebrating twenty-eight years of Premier Community comes with the opportunity to reminisce with pride on all that had been achieved.
Without the people, Premier Community wouldn’t be the amazing East Midlands’ family business it has grown into today. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.
