On Tuesday, February 25th, 2025, Premier Community Home Care will join our fellow providers in Westminister to advocate for vital social care reforms, raise awareness of its economic and societal value, and demand the funding and workforce support needed to sustain the sector.
Coordinated by #ProvidersUnite, this day of action will see thousands of care and support providers come together in Westminster and at simultaneous events around the country to call on the UK Government to engage in meaningful dialogue regarding the impact of the October 2024 budget upon the care sector and to request urgent reforms to ensure fair pay, better working conditions, and sustainable investment in future care services.
Over 1.6 million social care and support workers provide essential services to some of the UK’s most vulnerable people, yet often, these contributions go unnoticed and unrewarded. Currently, there is a sector-wide funding gap of £8.4bn, meaning providers like ourselves are already struggling to sustain essential services and are having to increase our prices for our private clients to reduce the impact of the shortfall.
Research by the independent think tank, the Nuffield Trust, published in November 2024, calculated the overall financial impact of the additional costs of the Autumn Budget on independent care and support providers as £2.8 billion. This, combined with the existing £8.4bn funding gap, will push the care sector into a deficit of over £10bn.
“I believe Premier Community must join the #ProvidersUnite movement to raise awareness of the struggles in social care,” explains Premier Community’s CEO, Daniel Isterling. “It’s a double-edged sword: more individuals have to fund their own care as the cap remains unaddressed, and local authorities are not receiving fair funding to fulfil their legal responsibilities under the Care Act; this ultimately impacts sector pay. It’s an undervalued skill. That’s why we’re going to London to protest.”
