Jayne’s journey with Premier Community

Jayne's journey with premier as Carlton Branch Manager

Another fantastic individual that is a part of the Premier Community Mobility team is Jayne, Branch Manager of the Carlton store, she has shared with us some insight of her role with Premier.

Can you tell us about your journey with Premier Community and how you came into your current role?

“I have worked in the care industry for ten years now in a variety of roles. I joined the Care Team at Premier in February 2024 and worked in the Arnold and Hucknall areas. Starting to struggle with the physical side of the carer’s role I was given the opportunity of becoming a care co-ordinator based at Head Office.

Although I enjoyed this position, I really missed the face-to-face contact with the clients, so I then decided to take on the Branch Manager role in The Carlton Mobility Shop. I have settled in well and love having the face-to-face contact back with the customers.”

What does a typical day look like for you, and what do you enjoy most about your work?

“A typical day for me starts with opening the shop and setting out our products both inside and outside. Throughout the day, I welcome new and returning customers, helping them browse and offering advice on the wide range of items we stock. I often support caregivers especially those looking after family members with dementia by offering guidance or simply a listening ear during challenging moments. I also take calls from people seeking information about the products we provide.

I keep the shop clean and tidy, regularly refreshing the displays to encourage people to come into the shop for a browse. Part of my day also involves setting up insurance and warranties for scooters, wheelchairs etc.

The most rewarding part of my job is the people I meet. I love the contact I have with the local community, I have met some lovely people, who pop in regularly for a chat or to top up on items like continence products or even treat themselves to a new pair of slippers or shoes.”

How does your role make a difference to customers or the wider team?

“I think what goes a long way with customer’s is the care experience I have. I am able to offer advice and comfort to the community about our products or situations customers find themselves in as they get older such as mobility, incontinence, physical ability decline, Dementia and other disabling conditions like Parkinson’s.

I am also able to promote the Home Care side of Premier to people who come into the shop looking for a care service in the local area.”

What’s been a highlight or proud moment for you since joining Premier Community?

“Taking care of our lovely clients at their most vulnerable. Listening, chatting and showing compassion, especially for those who are lonely and may not have family or visitors for days on end.

It’s the most rewarding job ever. Although I’m currently unable to provide care in the community due to the physical demands of the role. I am still able to contribute to the Mobility shop, drawing on all the experience I have in the industry over the last ten years.”

Do you have any personal connections or experiences to your role?

“Yes, I have cared for my brother and sister during their Cancer journeys. They have both sadly passed now. But I saw the difference mobility aids made during the most life changing times.

Mobility Scooters gave them both a new lease of life. All the gadgets available enabled them to remain as independent as possible for as long as they could.”

What Premier Community value resonates with you the most?

“Family Values and all it stands for.  I am a carer because I care. Take care of everyone as if they were your own family and that’s what Premier excels in.”

What’s something about you that your colleagues might not know?

“I failed my driving test three times! I had 84 lessons and three different instructors. The same examiner was allocated to me on every test! He was so strict and unfriendly, he made me shake but by the third go I was ready for him, and I passed with flying colours!”

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. My Son has recently got married so I am eagerly awaiting Grand Children, I can’t wait. I love a nice walk in the Country Park close to where I live, I like to bake and cook when I have the time.

My biggest passion though is my garden; I could spend hours in it rain or shine. This year I tried my hand at growing my own veg and my tomatoes were like mini apples!”

If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

“Caring, Friendly and Compassionate”
