At Premier Community, we’re surrounded by people who go above and beyond for others — not just in their roles, but in their everyday lives too. This month, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Alyssa Garrity, who is taking on a charity walking challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
For Alyssa, this challenge is deeply personal. Alongside her care role with Premier Community, she has recently qualified as a nurse, and through her training she has worked closely with people whose lives have been affected by cancer. Alyssa shared how powerful that experience has been — heart breaking at times, but also inspiring in the way patients continue to show love, courage, and determination through the hardest moments. This walk is her way of giving something back and standing alongside those who are fighting every day.
Alyssa set herself a target of walking around 2km per day, but she’s already ahead of schedule, regularly walking beyond her daily goal. She’s built a routine that fits alongside her care responsibilities, and she’s feeling confident that she’ll complete the challenge — and possibly even exceed it.
Alyssa’s dedication to making a difference doesn’t stop when her shift ends. In fact, that same compassion shines through in the way she talks about her work. She’s been enjoying life in her live-in care role, especially the chance to spend meaningful time with clients, learn their stories, and support them at their own pace. Whether that’s giving someone a lie-in, sharing a proper cooked meal, or simply sitting together looking through old photos and memories — Alyssa brings patience, warmth, and genuine connection to the people she supports.
Values in action
Alyssa’s challenge is a real reflection of Premier Community’s values. It puts family values at the centre by supporting people and loved ones affected by cancer, shows deep respect and dignity for those facing the toughest battles, and demonstrates trust and transparency through wholehearted support of a cause that transforms lives through research. Just as importantly, Alyssa’s determination to fit this into her routine and push beyond her target highlights the innovation and personal drive we’re proud to see across our teams.
