If you’ve met Megan Morris, you’ll know exactly why she’s been nominated for The Care Newcomer Award. From the moment she joined our Chesterfield home care team, she brought a spark of positivity, energy, and warmth that instantly lifted the spirits of everyone around her.
Coming from a background in hospitality and pub work, Megan had never worked in care before, but you’d never guess it. She stepped into the role with natural compassion, a joyful presence, and a genuine desire to make people’s lives brighter.
A Natural Talent for Care
From her very first week, Megan showed the qualities of someone born to work in care. Service users adore her; colleagues depend on her. She brings humour, patience, and a glow of positivity to every visit.
Megan told us she felt “shocked and in disbelief” when she found out she’d been nominated. She genuinely never thought she’d be noticed for her work. But everyone around her felt the opposite. Friends, family, colleagues, and service users have all said the same thing:
Megan deserves this recognition because she is an exceptional carer.
Going Beyond Her Role: An Expert by Experience
Despite being new to the care sector, Megan quickly stepped into the role of Expert by Experience (EbE). She now supports new carers through the onboarding process, sharing her knowledge with patience and encouragement.
Her ability to reassure others, explain tasks clearly, and boost confidence has made her an essential part of helping new team members settle into the Chesterfield branch. It’s rare for someone so new to care to take on this responsibility, and even rarer to do it so well.
A Story That Shows Who Megan Is
Megan recently shared a powerful story that speaks volumes about her empathy and professionalism. Whilst working one evening, she visited a service user and provided their care. She then visited the next morning to discover that they had passed peacefully overnight.
Megan had built a strong bond with the family, staying in close contact, bringing comfort, and ensuring the person’s final days were filled with dignity and joy. On that final evening, the person receiving our services spoke lovingly about her daughters and granddaughter. Megan made sure to share that conversation with the family afterwards.
Her compassion moved the family so deeply that Megan was personally invited to the funeral and wake, where she was seated among family members. She says it was one of the most meaningful moments of her career, and one she will never forget.
This is who Megan is: gentle, kind, respectful, and deeply human in her approach to care.
A Loved and Valued Part of the Community
Megan describes this as “the most rewarding job I have ever had” and says her team and service users feel “like family.” Her colleagues feel exactly the same. She’s become a vital part of the Chesterfield team, someone who lifts morale, brings joy to every visit, and ensures every person in her care feels valued and comfortable.
As for the awards night? Megan admits she hasn’t picked an outfit yet (that’s very on-brand!), but she’ll be attending with a colleague who has supported her from day one.
A Newcomer Making a Remarkable Impact
Megan’s nomination is more than well-deserved. In just a short time, she has:
- transformed the experience of countless service users
- supported new carers with kindness and clarity
- uplifted her colleagues with her positivity
- shown natural skill, empathy, and dedication in every shift
- become a core part of the Chesterfield community
She shows what happens when the right person joins the care profession, someone who brings heart, humour, and humanity everywhere they go.
Congratulations, Megan. Your impact has already been extraordinary, and this is only the beginning.
