Doing the right thing for our Community

Kirk Hallam resident’s independence restored thanks to a local company’s act of kindness

Andrew, from Kirk Hallam, has regained his independence after local mobility shop, Premier Community, replaced his stolen mobility scooter free of charge.

The family-run retailer was tagged in a local Facebook post reporting the theft of the mobility scooter, which had been dumped into a local stream. When staff recognised the model, they checked their records and discovered the scooter had been purchased from their Ilkeston store on Bath Lane only a few months earlier.

Determined to help, the team reached out directly to the owner to see how they could support him.

“I was devastated to find my scooter missing. It was a lovely scooter that helped me get out to the local shops and community,” said Andrew.

After discussing Mr Hull’s needs, Premier Community Mobility delivered a brand-new mobility scooter to replace the stolen one — a lightweight, portable model that folds up easily for indoor storage. The design means Mr Hull can keep his new wheels safely inside his home, giving him peace of mind and added security.

“What happened to Mr Hull wasn’t his own fault; we just had to do what we could to look after him. Although we couldn’t salvage his scooter, we’re thrilled to offer an alternative for him,” explains Lynne Chuda, Community Branch Manager for our Ilkeston Store.

The company’s act of generosity has been widely praised online, with dozens of community members commenting to thank Premier Community for their compassion.

“There’s a lot of doom and gloom online, but this was a chance to show our community that we believe in the area and care about our customers. It was a pleasure to support Andrew and see how much this small act of kindness meant to him,” adds Tim Isterling, Premier Community Communications Manager.
