How to choose the right riser recliner
The right chair depends on how you like to sit, the support you need and your size. A chair that’s too high, too deep or too wide can make standing up harder, not easier โ which is why we always recommend trying one in person. Here’s a quick guide to the main types we sell.
Single motor riser recliners
One motor moves the back and footrest together, controlled with a simple handset. A good choice if you mainly need help getting in and out of your chair and want something easy to use.
Dual & multi-motor riser recliners
Separate motors for the back and legs, so you can raise your feet while sitting upright to read or watch TV, or recline the back without lifting your legs. Multi-motor models such as the Balmoral Premier Plus and Dorchester add powered headrest, footplate or lumbar adjustment.
Tilt-in-space chairs
Tilt-in-space chairs like the Jubilee tilt the whole seat back while keeping your sitting position, spreading your weight for comfort if you sit for long periods.
Made-to-measure riser recliners
Our made-to-measure chairs are handcrafted in the UK and made to order in the size and fabric that suits you. Our team will measure you in store to find the right fit.
Try before you buy at a local mobility shop
Visit one of our mobility shops in Swadlincote, Carlton (Nottingham), King’s Mill Hospital (Mansfield), Ilkeston and Woodseats (Sheffield) to sit in different chairs, try the controls and get honest advice from our team. Once you’ve found the right one, we offer free local delivery and set-up, so it’s ready to use at home.
Riser Recliners FAQs
What's the difference between single and dual motor riser recliners?
A single motor moves the back and footrest together. A dual motor moves them separately, so you can raise your legs while sitting upright or recline the back on its own. Dual motor chairs give you more positions; single motor chairs are simpler to use.
How do I know which size riser recliner I need?
Your feet should rest flat on the floor with your knees roughly level with your hips, with a little space either side of you. Seat height, depth and width all matter, so the best way to check is to sit in a chair at one of our shops, where our team can measure you.
Can I try a riser recliner before I buy?
Yes. All five of our mobility shops โ Swadlincote, Carlton, King's Mill, Ilkeston and Woodseats โ have riser recliners on display for you to sit in and try.
Do you deliver and set up the chair?
Yes. We offer free local delivery and set-up, so your chair is put in place and ready to use. Ask in store or call 0800 368 9923 to check delivery to your area.
Can I get a riser recliner made to measure?
Yes. Our made-to-measure chairs are handcrafted in the UK in the size and fabric that suits you. Visit one of our shops and our team will measure you for the right fit.
Do I pay VAT on a riser recliner?
Prices shown are with VAT relief, which applies if you have a long-term illness or disability and the chair is for your own use. If you're not eligible, VAT is added โ each product page shows both prices.
What weight limit do I need?
Choose a chair rated comfortably above your weight. Each product lists its maximum user weight, and our team can help if you need a higher capacity.
