From Housebound to Hasland Park: How Companion Care Helped Allan Reconnect with His Community

Sometimes the most important journeys are the shortest ones.

For Allan, a simple trip to Hasland Park marked something much bigger than a walk in the sunshine. It was his first outing in a very long time.

After experiencing a stroke and other health complications, Allan’s mobility had reduced significantly. Like many people living with long-term health conditions, getting out of the house had become increasingly difficult, leaving him isolated from the places and people he once enjoyed.

But thanks to his very first social care visit with Premier Community, that began to change.

Together with his carer, Allan enjoyed a gentle stroll around Hasland Park, breathing in the fresh air, chatting along the way, and reconnecting with friends he hadn’t seen for quite some time.

For many people, a walk in the park might seem like an ordinary part of the day.

For Allan, it was a moment that reminded him that life can still be full of connection, conversation, and community.

More Than Home Care

Home care isn’t just about helping with personal care or daily routines.

For many of the people we support, companionship and social interaction are just as important for maintaining health and wellbeing.

Our social and companionship visits are designed to help people continue doing the things they enjoy, whether that’s visiting a local café, taking a walk in the park, attending community groups, shopping, or simply spending time chatting with someone who genuinely cares.

These moments help reduce loneliness, improve confidence, and support emotional wellbeing, particularly for people who are housebound or recovering after illness or a stroke.

Why Social Visits Matter

Research consistently shows that regular social interaction can have a positive impact on both physical and mental wellbeing.

The benefits of companionship care can include:

💙 Improved emotional wellbeing and confidence

💙Reduced feelings of loneliness and isolation

💙 Encouragement to stay active and mobile

💙 Opportunities to reconnect with family, friends, and the local community

💙 Greater independence and quality of life

💙 Peace of mind for families knowing their loved one is supported and engaged

For Allan, having two social visits each week means more than simply leaving the house. It gives him something to look forward to, helps him stay connected to his community, and supports him to live life on his own terms.

Person-Centred Care That Makes a Difference

Every person has different interests, routines, and goals.

That’s why we take the time to understand what matters most to each individual. For some, it’s regaining confidence after a hospital stay. For others, it’s returning to a favourite place, seeing familiar faces, or simply enjoying a change of scenery.

These personal moments often have the biggest impact.

At Premier Community, we believe great care is about enabling people to live independently for as long as possible, while continuing to enjoy the activities, friendships, and experiences that bring meaning to everyday life.

Allan’s story is a wonderful reminder that care isn’t just about support at home.

Sometimes it’s about opening the front door and helping someone rediscover the world waiting outside.
