Act 3 of 30: Continuing a Kindness That Changed a Life

Act 3 of 30: Continuing a Kindness That Changed a Life

When we launched our 30 for 30 campaign, we wanted to celebrate the people, causes and acts of kindness that make a difference in our communities.

For our third act of community kindness, that mission became deeply personal.

On 1 June, Premier Community’s Communications Manager, Tim Isterling, said goodbye to his hair once again, raising more than £400 (plus Gift Aid) for The Little Princess Trust.

It is the fourth time Tim has taken on the challenge, but this year’s shave carried the same purpose that inspired the first.

To honour his wife.

A kindness that came full circle

Before she passed away from cancer in 2017, Tim’s wife donated her hair to help create wigs for children and young people experiencing hair loss.

Later in her own cancer journey, she received a wig herself.

It was more than just hair.

It provided comfort, confidence and peace of mind during an incredibly difficult time. It allowed her to feel like herself and helped her face the world with a little more normality when so much around her had changed.

That experience left a lasting impression.

Nearly a decade later, Tim continues to support The Little Princess Trust, helping ensure other families can access the same support when they need it most.

More than a haircut

Let’s be honest. Voluntarily shaving your head is not everyone’s idea of a good time.

Tim says it’s easy to do something that feels brave when you’re carrying someone far braver in your thoughts.

His friends haven’t exactly helped either.

“The worst part is that people keep telling me I look better without hair,” he laughed. “Which is both flattering and deeply offensive at the same time.”

Jokes aside, the temporary sacrifice is insignificant compared to the impact donations can have on young people facing hair loss due to cancer treatment and other conditions.

Why The Little Princess Trust?

The Little Princess Trust provides real-hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses.

The charity also funds vital research into childhood cancers, helping improve treatments and outcomes for young people and their families.

For many recipients, a wig offers far more than a new hairstyle. It can restore confidence, provide reassurance and help someone feel like themselves again during a challenging chapter of life.

Having seen that impact first-hand, supporting the charity remains a cause close to Tim’s heart.

One of the themes running through our 30 for 30 campaign is the idea that kindness has a ripple effect.

Keeping kindness moving forward

A donation inspires another donation.

A helping hand encourages someone else to step forward.

A small act of generosity can continue making a difference long after the original moment has passed.

This challenge reflects exactly that.

A hair donation made years ago has inspired four fundraising campaigns. A wig that brought comfort to one person is helping provide support to others. A personal memory has become a way to create something positive for families facing similar challenges today.

That feels very aligned with who we are at Premier Community.

Family values. Respect and dignity. Trust and transparency. Innovation.

Most importantly, looking after people.

Thank you

Thanks to the generosity of friends, family, colleagues and supporters, the challenge raised more than £400, exceeding its original £300 target.

Every donation helps The Little Princess Trust continue its incredible work supporting children, young people and families across the UK.

For Tim, the fundraiser is about more than a number on a fundraising page.

It’s about remembering someone special.

It’s about passing on a kindness.

And it’s about proving that even years later, a single act of generosity can continue changing lives.
