Basic Life Support is an essential skill for care workers. Oftentimes, staff have to handle life-threatening situations. Proper training enables staff to stay calm during emergencies and equips them with the necessary tools and skills to support our service users at their most vulnerable time.
We are constantly seeking ways to enhance our in-house carer training to ensure that all our staff receive the best possible training.
We have recently made improvements to our Basic Life Support Training program.
While our staff have always received Basic Life Support training, feedback from them has highlighted the need for additional equipment to help them feel completely confident when assisting a service user in an emergency.
Our staff possess a wealth of knowledge and skills related to illnesses and medical emergencies.
Choking can be a serious concern for a lot of service users due to the various health conditions that can affect eating and swallowing.
Our new equipment includes a choking trainer vest, which simulates a choking scenario and teaches the correct technique for back blows and abdominal thrusts.
Additionally, we have a resuscitation doll for practicing CPR, this allows staff to build their confidence and understand the actions they will need to take in any emergency situations.
Defibrillators are an essential life-saving tool which can make the difference between life and death, our staff now have the opportunity to use our training defibrillator.
All our new staff members receive carer training on how to use this equipment, and we will also be organising training sessions for existing staff to refresh their skills.
