What is VAT Relief?

VAT relief allows people with disabilities or long-term health conditions to buy certain mobility aids without paying VAT. Normally set at 20% here in the UK, VAT can be a significant extra cost, so the relief is designed to make these essential products more affordable.

Chronically Ill or Disabled: This includes any physical or mental impairment that affects one’s ability to carry out everyday activities.
Living with a Long-Term Condition: Examples include conditions like arthritis, multiple sclerosis, physical disability, or mobility issues due to age or illness.

Note: Temporary disabilities (e.g., a broken leg) do not qualify for VAT relief.

Which Products Qualify for VAT Relief?

Not all products are eligible, so it’s essential to know which items you can purchase VAT-free. Generally, VAT relief applies to products designed specifically for people with disabilities, such as:

No Doctor’s Certificate Needed: You don’t need a doctor’s note to claim VAT relief, but you do need to confirm your eligibility honestly.
