NHS Health Checks for Premier Community Carers

NHS Health Checks for Premier Community Carers

This week at Premier Community five of our amazing carers have had their NHS Health Checks performed by Karen, a pharmacy assistant based in Nottingham, we caught up with Karen and asked her a few questions about the importance of NHS checks. Here’s what she had to say:

Why should you book your NHS Health Check?

“For healthy people who aren’t working or already seeing a GP, it’s a chance to check that nothing going on untoward that they have no symptoms for unhealthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels normally don’t have any symptoms.”

What to expect at your NHS Health Check?

“An MOT of how general health and see how your lifestyle is affecting your general health and lifestyle is affecting your heart health. At the end of it you come away with a heart age, which is hopefully matches your own actual age. If not, you’ll have plenty of information and support to make some changes to look after your heart better for a long time.”

How often should you go and get an NHS Health Check?

“NHS Health checks are available for anyone aged forty and over and can be repeated every five years. It’s nice to see how people all look after themselves and if they make any positive changes affect their health and well-being.”

At the end of each appointment, we caught up with each induvial, to see how their experience was. All had kind words to say about their short time with Karen.

Deb added “Karen was very helpful, and went through everything” These simple, short checks are important to keep in mind to get done as you can spot early signs of conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease or heart disease. This is another reason as to why you should book your health check as soon as you’re eligible to see if they’re any changes you can make to your lifestyle to prevent any possible issues.

Michelle took the opportunity to book in for her NHS Health check as it was provided by work as she found it more straightforward to get seen by a healthcare professional than being seen by a GP. Michelle also shared she is pleased Premier Community have this to offer for their carers, as it is a beneficial service to see what small changes can be made if there are any health concerns that can be detected in their appointment.

Here at Premier Community, we value the wellbeing and health for all our staff and service users, so we encourage to get booked in and get your NHS Health Check! We would also like to say a thank you to Nottinghamshire County Council for kindly supporting us to provide the Health Checks.
