Act 5 of 30: A Small Act of Kindness for June in Sheffield
Sometimes, a replacement bag is just a replacement bag.
Sometimes, it means the world.
As part of our 30 for 30 campaign, we’re celebrating Premier Community’s 30th birthday by carrying out 30 acts of kindness across the communities we proudly serve.
This story from our Sheffield Mobility shop captures exactly why.
June’s Story…
While our team were in Sheffield celebrating our birthday, a lovely lady called June visited the store with her Triwalker. She was accompanied by a kind local church volunteer, someone June affectionately described as being “like a granddaughter.”
June explained that a trip into town the previous weekend had ended in a frightening ordeal. Two young men had attempted to mug her, leaving her shaken, although thankfully not physically injured.
During the attack, the storage bag attached to her Triwalker, which her daughter had purchased from Premier Community two years earlier, had been torn beyond repair.
She had come into our Sheffield shop simply hoping to buy a replacement.
But something about that didn’t sit right.
None of this was June’s fault. She had already endured far more than anyone should while simply going about their day. The thought of her having to pay again because of someone else’s actions just didn’t feel fair. That’s when our wonderful colleague, Maureen, stepped in.
Kindness in Action…
After chatting with June, Maureen shared the story of our 30 for 30 campaign, an initiative created to celebrate our 30th anniversary by giving back through meaningful acts of kindness.
Instead of selling June a new bag, Maureen replaced it completely free of charge.
A brand-new bag was fitted there and then, restoring June’s Triwalker and, we hope, reminding her that there is far more kindness in our communities than cruelty.
It was a simple gesture.
But kindness doesn’t have to be complicated to be powerful.
The smile shared between June and Maureen said more than words ever could.
Why it Matters…
This is exactly what 30 for 30 is about.
Not grand gestures. Not publicity. Just noticing when someone needs a helping hand and doing something about it. We can’t undo what happened to June, and we’re saddened that anyone should experience something like that. But we’re incredibly proud that when she walked through our doors, she was met with compassion, fairness and genuine care.
Thank you, Maureen, for reminding us that the smallest acts often leave the biggest impression.
And thank you, June, for allowing us to share your story. We’re honoured to have played a small part in helping you move forward.
