Premier Community’s Advocacy efforts for DementiaUK

Dementia UK Advocacy Banner

We are just over  a week into our dementia steps challenge we want to give you more of an insight as to what is to come for the remainder of the month of February with our stepping all over dementia campaign.

Our campaign is in aid of DementiaUK. They’re are an organisation where specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. To read more about this charity visit the link to see how you can donate and support them. There is also an abundance of information over on their website to offer support for you if you know someone close to you living with dementia, as they are there for the whole family. https://www.dementiauk.org/

Every year we show our support for DementiaUK by trying to get up and out by stepping all over dementia. This year we of course wanted to do the same as previous years but with a slight twist.

Those in our community who have wanted to partake in our stepping challenge have become a part of a community chat. This is a space for those who have set themselves personal challenges to let the other volunteers know their goals, aims and accomplishments whilst spurring each other on.

Below are those named partaking in their chosen challenges:

Challenge one: Taking on the 1K a day is…

  • Emma D
  • Claire J
  • Bethany G
  • Gemma S
  • Lionie P

Challenge two: Taking on the 100km Challenge is…

  • Liviya F
  • Tim I
  • Ben I
  • Dan I

Personal challenges are as follows:

  • Emily GT: To try and reach 5,000 steps a day
  • Georgia H: Walking 200km and crocheting for 28hours
  • Rebeca A: To do 30 sit ups a day throughout February
  • Latasha J: Run 50K in February
  • Rebecca H: To beat last years total
  • Zoe T: 10K per day
  • Laura P: to lose weight and increase my fitness level

All of these individuals are partaking to do their bit for a cause that as a home care provider is something that we care very deeply about. We have carers within our community who care for peoples loved ones who are living with dementia, and we also have those within in our community who know and love someone living with dementia.

With the help of these partaking, we are able to use our voice and influence to support an organisation like DementiaUK once again. Throughout the month we will be keeping our social media pages up to date with our weekly step counts, an insight into why we advocate for dementia as well as stories shared from the inspiring people named above participating in the challenges.
