30 for 30: That’s a Wrap! Our 30 Acts of Kindness in Our 30th Year
Back in June, we set ourselves a challenge. To mark 30 years of Premier Community, we’d complete 30 acts of kindness across the communities we’ve been proud to serve since 1996.
Four months, one abseil, one skydive and a fair few nerves later, we’ve done it.
Across the 30 acts, we partnered with 19 charities and community groups and gave over £9,000. Many of the causes we supported went on to raise far larger sums, and we’re really proud to have played a small part in that.
Here’s a look back at some of the moments that made it so special.
It started with an abseil
Our CEO, Dan Isterling, kicked things off by abseiling six storeys down King’s Mill Hospital for Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Heights are not his thing. He did it anyway. (Act 1)
The family kept leading from the front. Tim Isterling, our Communications Manager, shaved his head and donated his hair to the Little Princess Trust, raising over £400 in memory of his late wife, Primrose (Act 3). Then Carlie Isterling, our Financial Controller, jumped from 15,000ft at Hibaldstow Airfield and raised over £750 for Ashgate Hospice (Act 18).
Nothing quite prepares you for the freefall from 15,000ft.”
– Carlie Isterling
Three hospices close to our hearts
Hospices care for people and families at the most important moments of their lives, so it felt right that they were at the heart of 30 for 30.
- John Eastwood Hospice. We ended the campaign as lead sponsor of the hospice’s 35th Anniversary Charity Ball, which raised £16,071 for local patients and their families (Act 30). Dan and Tim also ran the Mansfield 10K for the hospice (Act 22).
- Hayward House Hospice. We were proud to support Bulwell Hall Golf Club’s charity golf day, which raised £10,300, more than double the previous year’s total (Act 9).
- Ashgate Hospice. As well as Carlie’s skydive, a team of 18 colleagues raised £1,200 at the annual Sparkle Walk for a charity we’re proud to partner.
We simply couldn’t have achieved such a fantastic result without Premier Community standing alongside us.”
– Lisa Todd, Fundraising Innovation Manager, John Eastwood Hospice
Going beyond the care plan
Some of our favourite acts came straight from the everyday work of our care and mobility teams.
- A safer way home. When our care assistants noticed an overgrown garden in Hucknall was making it hard to reach a client’s front door, a team of volunteers spent one of the hottest days of the summer clearing it. Carers and emergency services can now get to the home quickly (Act 11).
- Replacing what was lost. When a neighbour told our Kings Mill Mobility Shop that local resident Yvonne’s walking aid had been destroyed in a house fire in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, the team replaced it free of charge (Act 10).
- A little comfort for the journey home. The Kings Mill Mobility Shop team packed ten self-care boxes for people leaving hospital, each with a blanket, tea and biscuits, and a puzzle book (Act 26).
- A dream day out. One of our clients, a lifelong Manchester United fan, had a birthday wish come true with a trip to Old Trafford with his carer (Act 20).
Sometimes, caring for someone means noticing the things that sit beyond the care plan.”
25 donors, 16 first-timers
One of our proudest moments didn’t cost a penny. A 25-strong team from across the company gave blood together, and 16 of them were donating for the first time (Act 24).
I’ve always wanted to donate, so was thrilled to join this team and give in a different way!”
– Lucy, first-time donor

Backing our communities
From Sheffield to South Derbyshire, and even as far as Nepal, we also:
- paid to train two new listening volunteers at Chesterfield Samaritans (Act 7)
- donated £250 of food to Kirkby Storehouse Foodbank (Act 14)
- delivered bundles of hope to families in Long Eaton (Act 13)
- supported Pathways to Hope Nepal, which helps people start small businesses that give them a sustainable income (Act 12)
- backed grassroots sport, from Clowne Comets and Mansfield Rugby Club’s young players to winter coats for Langold FC’s under-15s and anniversary kit for Gresley Rovers FC Ladies
Thank you
To every colleague who walked, ran, jumped, gave blood, cleared gardens, packed boxes or cheered from the sidelines: thank you. And to every charity, club and community group who let us be part of their story, thank you too.
When Mum started Premier Community 30 years ago, it was about looking after people in our own community. 30 for 30 has been our team’s way of saying thank you, with every act coming from our staff. I’m proud of every one of them.”
– Dan Isterling, CEO
What’s next?
The 30 acts may be done, but the giving isn’t. We’ll keep partnering with local groups, starting with a Christmas toy drive alongside Mansfield Radio. Keep an eye on our social channels for how you can get involved.
